THE STORY

Jimmy Smith and accommodation Port Elliot?

Long before our luxury accommodation Port Elliot, Jimmy Smith’s Dairy was simply a dairy. Jimmy Smith led a simple life. He ran his herd of dairy cows on this property in the mid 1900s – a time when the cow bell might have been the only piece of technology to ring through the still country air.

Although the years since have brought with them many comforts, we also know that a slice of simplicity is good for us all. Jimmy Smith’s Dairy offers a sanctuary from which to explore South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula.

Noel and Robyn Akmens and accommodation Port Elliot.

Noel and Robyn have lived on this property for over 30 years – taking advantage of the space to raise four boys. They are passionate about this part of the world and love to share it.

A true maker, Noel ran his custom furniture business from the main shearing shed across the paddock before turning his hand to the Dairy. He still designs and creates unique one-off bespoke pieces for clients around Australia. Just ask him for a tour, he’s always happy to show you through the rustic workshop he calls his office.

Robyn, heart of the family and final decision maker on all things interior and garden, is born and bred on the Fleurieu Peninsula. When she is not at work, you will most likely find her tending to her own vegetable garden. Unless of course one of the boys is home. Then you will find her in the kitchen catching up on lost time or trying to fill a hungry mouth!

They teamed up with architect Amy Grundy, from Studio AKA, to ensure the character of the building was retained whilst crafting a true piece of luxury accommodation and contemporary design.

The result is “a magnificent combination of historic remains and every modern convenience, right down to a Nespresso coffee machine.. This unique two-bedroom getaway is really something special. My idea of holiday perfection.Sarah-Kate Lynch, Travel Editor, Woman’s Day, NZ

Since Robyn and Noel still live at the end of the property, they will happily help with any queries. Most of all, they hope you find rest and relaxation and trust you will thoroughly enjoy your stay.
